Biofeedback is a scientifically proven treatment that uses scientific instruments to measure and provide feedback on physiological information such as temperature, breath rate, heart rate, muscle tension, skin conductance and brain waves. It can be a powerful tool to help you connect your mind and body!

Biofeedback is used as a training technique in which you will be taught how you can improve your health and performance by using signals from your own body. You will learn self-regulation of your own body systems in order to improve your overall physical and mental health.

The objective of Biofeedback is to help you develop greater awareness and voluntary control over your physiological processes that are otherwise outside your awareness or under less of your control. Essentially, you will be learning how to regulate your own nervous system!

What Biofeedback is not

Biofeedback is non-invasive. It is not a relaxation technique but the side benefit is that you will learn how to self-regulate and recognize your own relaxation response!

Treatment Sessions

At your initial session, general information about your physical and mental health, including what has worked for you in the past and what hasn’t will be discussed. This information will be gathered to determine if Biofeedback is the right treatment for you. If it is decided that Biofeedback is going to help you, several weekly or biweekly sessions will be scheduled for you. During these sessions, you can expect your Biofeedback training to last between 30-45 minutes. This time is needed to set you up on the equipment, provide education, training, clean up, and homework assignment. Training sessions are typically 8-10 sessions but can be longer based on need. Biofeedback is a conditioning process. This means that you will not only be training in session, but you will also be required to practice at home!

Mindfulness & Biofeedback

Mindfulness is a research based cognitive therapy that helps people learn to “be where they are” and “let go” of troubling emotions. It is a proven treatment for anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Mindfulness meditation combined with biofeedback training can help enhance your overall mental and physical health by improving your training response. By using mindfulness to teach you to “let go of the struggle,” your ability to self-regulate through biofeedback training improves and allows you to reach your goal of mind-body wellness.

Paying for biofeedback

Biofeedback is offered on a self-pay rate for all training. There is no insurance coverage for biofeedback training offered in our office.
